Parent Participation

An effective school is one where teachers and parents work together for the benefit of children. There are a variety of ways in which parents are welcome to be involved.  These include assisting with excursions and camps, school banking, library, working bees, and contributing at what for many is the highlight of the school social calendar, the annual fair.
Parents are also encouraged to assist in the classroom in a variety of ways. They may be involved with reading, writing or numeracy as well as being able to assist in other areas. Parent Helpers may be ‘trained’ before beginning and are expected to attain a Working with Children Check (WWC) even though they are under the direction of the teacher at all times.
Parent involvement enables each child to practice and celebrate their learning, which is crucial to success.  Teachers look forward to parent support and participation in the Classroom Helpers Program.

School Council

Council membership comprises 10 elected parent members, 3 elected staff members, the Principal and a Principal nominee.
The School Council has the overall responsibility for developing the policies and direction of the school within State guidelines.  The detailed control of programs of the school and the translating of school policies into educational programs rests with the Principal and staff.
School Council meetings are open for the community’s attendance and participation. The dates of these meetings are included in the school newsletter and on the school website.

Community Events and

Fundraising Commttee

Participation in events organised by the Community Events and Fundraising Committee offers parents the opportunity to make new friends while working for the benefit of our children.
The committee organises a number of activities and functions throughout the year. Some of these raise funds to provide the school with additional resources, whilst others are organised for social reasons.
Both children and parents benefit and we encourage all to become involved.  Dates and times of committee meetings are advertised in the weekly newsletter.

Communication

APS use the Compass Portal to communicate with parents. Each family receives a unique login code to access their children's event calendar, reports, newsletters and other information.

We have a weekly newsletter that is available via compass, on our website and via hard copy from the office.
Inspiring learning, creativity and excellence for our future.
Kindness, resilience, integrity, curiosity and respect are embedded in all aspects of life at Alphington Primary School and truly support our endeavour to assist students to be outstanding in all that they do. Students develop social skills such as understanding what it means to be a good friend and how to care for and work with others.
